The Mount: EAA Foundation

The mount is the piece of equipment that aims and moves the telescope tube (the optical tube assembly, or OTA). We list it first here because it’s foundational for a good EAA rig. Unfortunately, it seems that, more often, the emphasis ends up being placed on the OTA. This is not a bad thing. However, the OTA, though indeed important, cannot operate effectively without a mount that can handle it. Therefore, the mount should not be an afterthought. In fact, in many EAA rigs, the mount will end up costing 30% or more of the entire kit of equipment.
