Camera
Fundamental for EAA
Without question, the development of the complementary metal-oxide semiconductor (CMOS) camera has contributed much to the growth of electronically-assisted astronomy. Another factor, interestingly, has been the growth of the smartphone market. Cell phone designers have a hunger for more and more light-gathering ability coupled with fast, effective processing power. This aids EAA-ers in incredible ways. (The market for electronically-assisted astronomers is fairly slim. The market for smartphone users who also want to take good pictures is mega-colossal. We benefit from their hunger in every way, including capabilities and cost/value.)
Your Budget
Ultimately, one of the main determinants for which camera to purchase will likely be price. If you’re just getting started, you might consider a basic CMOS one-shot color cameras. Lots of EAA-ers start with something like the ZWO ASI183MC-PRO. But the choice is yours.
